Hamburger Steak Patties

Ingredients:

– 1 1/2 lbs (680 g) ground beef (preferably 80/20 for juicier patties)
– 1 small onion, finely chopped
– 1/4 cup (60 g) breadcrumbs
– 1 egg
– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 teaspoon onion powder
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)

**For the Gravy (optional):**
– 1 large onion, sliced
– 2 tablespoons butter
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 2 cups (480 ml) beef broth
– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
– Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. **Prepare the Patties:**
– In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
– Mix everything together gently with your hands until well combined, but be careful not to overmix to avoid tough patties.
– Form the mixture into 4-6 evenly sized patties.

2. **Cook the Patties:**
– Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
– Place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are browned and cooked through to your desired doneness (internal temperature should reach 160°F/70°C).
– Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside on a plate, covering them with foil to keep warm.

3. **Make the Gravy (optional but highly recommended):**
– In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
– Add the sliced onions and cook until softened and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
– Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of flour over the onions and stir to coat, cooking for about 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
– Gradually whisk in the beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
– Add 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce and continue to cook for another 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the gravy thickens.
– Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. **Serve:**
– Pour the onion gravy over the hamburger steak patties.
– Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.

Tips:
– **Additions:** You can add sautéed mushrooms to the gravy for extra flavor.
– **Make Ahead:** You can prepare the patties ahead of time and refrigerate them for up to 24 hours before cooking.

Enjoy!
